Organic Ambient Light Lamp

research image for organic lamp
I am trying to bring as many different shapes and sizes of the trunk as possible, so I have more ideas to go from.
(1)starting with a broad idea of using things in nature like a tree trunk.
(2)the tree trunk spreads out in different directions.
(3)the tree gum could be a good idea for the 3D print lamp, for I make the trunk thick and the gum thin for the light to go through.
(4)having a normal cut tree trunk to get an idea of what it would look like without anything extra added.
sketch development part 1
First I have to think of what kind of light I want to make. so I thought the best idea that fit "organic" was to make an Ambient Light.
for the first image of my sketch, I have been sketching different kinds of trunks, and I got this idea from(1)and (4). This is the first kind of trunk lamp idea, which was just trunks shape with holes for the light to shine through.
And for my second sketch/idea, I tried sketching tree gum on the trunk as the source for the light to shine through. (3) I think it would make a lot of sense for the tree gum part of the light to shine.
As for my third development sketch, I tried the idea of a tree trunk spread out(2), and the light would be in the centre of the trunk. and for the second part, I try sketching crocket trunks and the light will shine through the curve part of the trunk.
sketch development part 2
I like my last idea the most so I elaborated on the idea and came up with the sketch in the first image, but the problem was it looked too complicated to make into a 3D model.
since it was too complicated I decided to simplify it to a more reasonable idea. After I was sure of what the lamp will proximity look like, I sketch out different angles of the lamp which is the last image.
sketch final
For part three I wanted to have clear measurements the lamp will look so that when I start modelling I will have an idea of how big and tall the model should be.   I had to change the sketch quite a few times for the first sketch which is the front view of the lamp because I couldn't get the sketch to the right measurements. once I got the right measurements I'm satisfied with it was easy to sketch the second sketch which is the side view. The small mistake I made here is I didn't sketch the top and bottom views of the lamp, but it didn't affect my process of 3D modelling process as I thought it would. The light is supposed to fit the light inside it, and the light will shine through, I got the idea from the tree gum.
3D modelling first draft
The first attempt at modelling did not go well mainly because I don't know the tools that well, and I use the wrong measurements.
3D modelling second draft
The second attempt was much more successful than the first model, I got the shape that I wanted, but the problem with my second model is I haven't considered how to fit the light in the lamp. my idea was to have light shine through the sphere, but I've made the model as a whole and there was no space for the light to go in the sphere.
3D modelling final
For my final, I fixed all the problems that I had before, I made a hold in the centre of the lamp for the light, and wires and a cube on the bottom for the panel. and because I wanted the light to shine though so I had to make the sphere a separate component.

 Final Ambient Light
The Ambient Light turned out much better than I would have expected, the light shine right through the sphere and onto the wall making a beautiful pattern, it was a good idea to print the two-part separately so there was space for the light to go in and I think the two ways of printing are also a plus. So I think this is a successful ambient light.
